To bring practical, experience-based support to forestry and ecology professionals, landowners, and managers. After years of working across government, private, and educational sectors, we saw a growing need for services that don’t just tick regulatory boxes—but actually work on the ground.
Rooted in the ancient Clun Forest area of Shropshire, and shaped by decades of real-world project delivery, Clunside Forestry & Ecology was created to help others make confident decisions about their land, habitats, and woodlands—whether they’re new to the sector or deeply embedded in it.
With over 30 years in forestry and conservation, Steve has worked in everything from ancient woodland restoration and forest design planning to large-scale ecology projects and woodland creation. His background includes 20 years with bodies like the Forestry Commission and Natural Resources Wales, and spending most of the last decade working in the commercial private sector as well as providing training at both university-level and within industry.
He expertly delivers our high-level technical training, as well as providing ongoing support and mentoring to course attendees or new professionals.
Steve brings a rare mix of field knowledge, strategic thinking, and regulatory insight—helping clients get the best outcomes for their land, trees, and goals. LEARN MORE ABOUT STEVE....
With a strong background in environmental forestry and analytical science, Jo brings valuable skills in GIS, course coordination, and business operations to Clunside Forestry & Ecology.
Her experience includes working with the Forestry Commission, private estate work, and short-term tree survey contracts for ADAS. Her public and private sector work involved focusing on ancient woodlands, parkland forestry, tree assessments, and GIS mapping of conservation data.
While her career has since expanded into other areas, Jo now supports the business through GIS work, logistics, and operational management—playing a vital role behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly.
We believe in straight-talking advice that’s backed by practical experience and a deep understanding of forestry and ecology. We know the pressures land managers face, and we don’t offer one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, we listen carefully, assess thoroughly, and guide our clients with insight gained from years in the field. We understand what’s expected on paper—and what actually works on the ground.
We prioritise solutions that are realistic, deliverable, and make sense for your land.
Decades of experience, always applied with fairness, accuracy, and a focus on long-term benefit.
We unite forestry and ecology in ways that support both nature and people.
We believe in building confidence and capability through practical training and supportive mentoring.
Whether you’re an estate manager, new forester, or ecologist in training, we help you move forward with clarity.
We love a challenge, so if our "Services" page is not providing the answer, then feel free to enquire about bespoke courses and services.
