A one-day course exploring the soil ecosystem and its impact on successful woodland creation
1: How soil health influences tree growth, and how foresters can work with, not against, the soil ecosystem.
2: Designed as an optional third day following the Soil ID & Surveying course, this session focuses on practical knowledge to help foresters improve woodland establishment outcomes.
3: Whether you're working with new planting sites or replanting after harvesting, understanding the function of healthy soil can make the difference between success and struggle.
4: Improve the finances of your woodland establishment by knowing which trees will give you the greatest yield, and understanding how to minimise beat-up and establishment costs.
5: As part of the day enjoy the insights and in-depth knowledge of our guest speaker Daniel Iddon – CEO & Founder of Re-Genus
By the end of this course, you'll have a deeper understanding of how soil influences forestry outcomes, along with practical insights you can immediately apply in the field. Here's what you'll take away:
Explore the complex interactions between soil components, including organic matter, structure, moisture, and biota. Learn how these factors influence forest productivity and resilience.
Understand how beneficial microbes support root development, nutrient uptake, and disease resistance. Discover how to foster healthy soil microbiomes for improved woodland success.
Learn how different species affect soil conditions over time through root systems, litter input, and biochemical processes. Gain insight into how planting choices can build healthier soils.
Examine current trials, practices, and results from forestry and land management projects. Use real examples to see how theory translates to tangible woodland outcomes.
Discover practical techniques and natural products that enhance soil health and improve establishment success. Equip yourself with options for supporting trees from the ground up.
